Ward 14, on the city’s southern edge, features such diverse community concerns as those of Willow Park and Silverado. Transportation and city spending are hot topics in the ward, which sees two returnees from the 2010 ballot battle. This ward showed in 2010 that it was willing to toss an incumbent, as multi-term Alderman Linda Fox-Mellway was shown the door with a fourth-place finish. The ward includes Willow Park, Maple Ridge, Lake Bonavista, Bonavista Downs, Queensland, Deer Run, Deer Ridge, Diamond Cove, Parkland, Midnapore, Sundance, Chaparral, Walden, Legacy and Silverado.
The candidates (listed in alphabetical order, by first name) are:Peter Demong
One of the original residents of Lake Bonavista, Peter and his family own a popular area flower shop. The incumbent here, he captured 29% of the popular vote in a hotly-contested race in 2010. Demong’s priorities include:
- Keep tax rate increases to a minimum
- Introduce Secondary Suites into all new communities
- Have Pedestrian and school zone signs combined to lessen confusion
