Nation, the good folks at CalgaryPolitics.com have been running all over the City of Calgary for the past 12 weeks, trying to cover this election from every conceivable angle. Forums. Road signs. Polls. Media appearances. Interviews. The first all-candidate TwiBates in human history (as far as we know). All of it for free, I might add.
All of this activity is going to culminate on the evening of Monday, October 18th. On that night, the polls will close, the votes will be counted, and Calgarians will have elected a new mayor, a new city council, and 2 new school boards.
Given the recent polling numbers, it may be a LONG night for certain mayoral candidates, trying to figure out if they’ve been given the keys to the Big Office. And, as long a night as it’s going to be for those candidates and their teams, it’s going to be just as long for those of us, bloggers and readers and tweeters and citizens alike, as we try to digest what has happened. Many campaigns are going to be holding “appreciation events” for their volunteers. But where should you go to blow off some steam, knock back a beverage of your choice with the people you’ve been yelling at via Twitter for 6 weeks, and get your live, real-time election-night results?
Simple: Go where the poli-nerds will be.
Beckham’s Pub. 108 17th Avenue NW (just north of 16th Avenue on Centre Street).
The festivities will be getting underway at 7:30 pm. We’ll have predictions from the Best Political Team in the Blogosphere. We’ll have live election results. We’ll hold a forum and an election for Alderman of Ward 15. We’ll have nametags for your Twitter handles – or that name your parents gave you. The media will be there (we have confirmation from at least one television station at this point). We’ll stay until all the races are decided, or until they kick us out. Because the real-worldisphere may be rearing its ugly head on Tuesday morning… but, on Monday night, we can get out of the trenches, dust ourselves off, and share a pint with the same people we’ve been yelling at for weeks.
After all… on Tuesday morning, we’re all back to being on the same team.
Team Calgary.
See you on Monday night, Team.
RSVP below. The more, the merrier.
